EC Directs Strict Enforcement of Election Code as Silence Period Begins
The Election Commission (EC) has directed Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers to strictly enforce the election code of conduct until voting centres close for the upcoming parliamentary polls.
The election to the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled to take place on March 5.
In preparation for the polls, the EC has designated the Assistant Chief District Officer and the Chief of the District Treasury Office in each district as Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Officers, assigning them specific responsibilities to ensure compliance with the rules.
The Commission has instructed the concerned officials to effectively implement the provisions outlined in the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 BS. According to the code, political parties and candidates have been prohibited from engaging in any form of election campaigning since midnight, marking the commencement of the silence period.
With the silence period now in effect, all forms of election publicity have been banned. The restriction applies not only to physical campaigning but also to activities on social networking sites and other digital platforms.
The silence period is intended to provide voters with time to independently consider their choices and make informed decisions without external influence before casting their ballots.
The EC has urged all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, media outlets, and the general public, to fully comply with the code of conduct to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
