Construction of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower’s tunnel nears completion; 67% of the overall project completed

The construction of tunnel of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project has reached its final stage. As per the information received, 95% of the construction of tunnel has been completed.

Along with the construction of tunnel, the construction of dam in the Bhotekoshi River has also started following the current rainy season.

The project is estimated to be completed by 2020 AD. Currently, there are 33 technicians and 700 worker (including 245 Chinese) working in the project. The Chinese construction company CWE China has prioritized the construction of tunnel. 67% of the construction of the project has been completed.

The construction of the project had started back in 2014 AD which was delayed due to many factors like shortage of petroleum product, earthquake, landslide in the nearby area and such.

The project has a capacity to produce 111 MW electricity annually. The cost of the project has been estimated to be Rs 13.64 arba. For the facilitation of the project, Employee Provident Fund has provided loan of RS 6.84 arba. Remaining Rs 6.84 arba is under the holding of Nepal Electricity Authority, Chilime Hydropower, locals of Rasuwagadhi district, employees registered under EPF and the general public. The project estimates the payment of the loan within 10 years of electricity production.
