Congratulations!!! Bidhya Bhandari elected as the second President of Nepal; 327 MPs voted for Ms. Bhandari

Bidhya Devi Bhandari has been elected as the second President of Nepal. Voting had started from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Ms. Bhandari is the first female president of Nepal.
CPN-UML Vice-chairperson Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Nepali Congress leader Kul Bahadur Gurung had filed their candidacy to the post.
Ms. Bhandari received 327 votes while Mr. Gurung secured 214 votes out of 549 votes casted. 8 votes were disqualified. The agitating Madhesi parties have boycotted this election.
After the promulgation of new constitution through the Constituent Assembly, the Legislature-Parliament has elected the President for the first time.

- Elected as central committee member of CPNUML in 2054 BS.
- Grand Father was village chief Pradhan Pancha
- Defeated the speaker of the house Mr. Daman Nath Dhungana Kathmandu constituency number 2 in general election held in 2051 BS
- Defeated Nepali Congress President Krishna Pashad Bhattari from Ktahmandu constituency no.1 in general election in 2050 BS
