A satirical political movement in neighbouring India, the "Cockroach Janta Party" (CJP), has taken the internet by storm, amassing over 12 million Instagram followers in just five days and surpassing the follower count of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Founded on May 16 by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30 year old public relations student at Boston University USA, and former political strategist, the CJP was launched in response to remarks made by India's Chief Justice Surya Kant. During a Supreme Court hearing, the Chief Justice reportedly compared some unemployed youths entering certain professions to "cockroaches" and "parasites." Though he later clarified his remarks were misquoted and aimed only at individuals with fake degrees, the internet had already mobilized.

Operating under the tagline "Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed," the unregistered party has tapped into deep seated frustrations among Indian youth regarding the country's high unemployment rate and recent nationwide exam paper leaks.

While not a formal political party, the CJP has released a five point mock manifesto demanding judicial accountability, strict anti-defection laws, and 50% reservation for women in Parliament. The viral movement has drawn the attention of prominent Indian Opposition leaders and activists, highlighting how Gen Z is increasingly weaponising digital satire to voice political dissent.
