Churpi, a Unique Cheese, Finds Its Way to US Shores

Churpi, produced by the Akala Namuna Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative located in Waling Municipality-8 of Syangja, is now making its way to the United States.
Churpi, a hardened cheese, is priced at Rs 1,000 to 1,100 per kilogram. The cooperative's chairperson, Punya Prasad Aryal, proudly shared that the Churpi produced by their cooperative is being exported to the United States.
Their dairy operation collects around 800 to 1,100 liters of milk daily from small farmers in the region. Lakshmi Pokharel Regmi, the cooperative's manager, explained, "We have been providing a 50 percent subsidy to farmers for agricultural materials, seeds, and grass plants."
In collaboration with the Prime Minister's Agricultural Digitization Project, they offered a 50 percent subsidy to ten farmers through the 'Buffalo Subsidy Program' during the last fiscal year. Additionally, 28 farmers received grants under the 'Storage Improvement Program.'
Established in 2075 BS, the cooperative boasts 2,850 shareholders. In the current fiscal year, they have plans to implement a free animal insurance program under the Livestock Protection Program.
Regmi emphasized the cooperative's commitment to empowering farmers to become self-sufficient and self-employed.
