BP Highway Reopens Following Three Day Flood Disruption

Vehicular movement along the BP Highway has officially resumed as of Thursday morning, following a three day standstill caused by severe flooding. The critical transport artery had been blocked since Monday after heavy rainfall triggered a surge in the Roshi Stream, rendering several sections impassable.

The restoration of traffic was made possible through the rapid construction of a road diversion. Local authorities had been working to bypass the damage since the stream overflowed, stalling commuters and freight. However, the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchowk, has issued a cautionary advisory urging the public to avoid the route unless absolutely necessary. Officials noted that persistent rainfall in the region continues to pose a risk of further disruptions.

This latest setback highlights the ongoing vulnerability of the highway. Last year, a massive combination of landslides and floods destroyed approximately 18 kilometers of road across Chaukidanga, Roshi, and Nepalthok in Sindhuli. While the current diversion allows for immediate travel, authorities emphasized that permanent reconstruction efforts for the damaged highway remain underway. Travelers are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and road status before embarking on their journey.
