Box Office Success: Top-Grossing Films in Nepal's Last Financial Year 2079/80

The Film Development Board has released statistics of domestic and foreign films screened in the last financial year 2079/80. According to these figures, 57 domestic and 78 foreign films were screened, generating a business of Rs. 76 crore 72 lakh 57 thousand from the screening of 57 indigenous films.

At the top of the list of the most commercially successful films in the country is 'Chakka Panja 4', directed by Hemraj BC. The movie sold 6 lakhs 29 thousand 750 tickets, resulting in a gross income of Rs. 17 crore 52 lakhs 99 thousand 159.

Actor Deepakraj Giri initiated film production with 'Cha Ekan Cha', bringing the popularity of the group of comedians from the teleserial to the big screen. The group continued to produce successful films like 'Chakka Panja' and 'Woda Number 6', and now, they are moving forward with this series.

The second-highest earner is Upendra Subba's movie 'Jaari', which completed 100 days of screening and sold 6,19,221 tickets, grossing Rs. 171,799,180.

Santosh Sen and Chheten Gurung directed 'Prem Geet 3', the third highest-grossing film in the list. It was screened in both Nepali and Hindi languages, selling 2 lakh 69 thousand 808 tickets in Nepali and 83 thousand 169 tickets in Hindi, with a gross business of Rs. 27 lakh 29 thousand 867.

At the fourth place is Pradeep Bhattarai's movie 'Mahapurush', which sold 2 lakh 47 thousand 728 tickets, resulting in a gross business of Rs. 7 crore 38 lakh 91 thousand 920.

The movie 'Dui Nambari', written and directed by Dipendra Lama, secured the fifth place with a gross business of Rs. Three Crores 84 lakhs 75 thousand 770 from the sale of 1,41,713 movie tickets.

Similarly, Rambabu Gurung's movie 'Fulbari', which is in the sixth place, achieved a gross business of Rs. 53 lakhs 20 thousand 479 through the sale of 26,549 tickets.

The movie 'Jhinge Dau', produced and directed by Gyanendra Deuja, secured the seventh place with the highest business in the public information. However, the exact gross income for this movie is not mentioned in the statistics released by the board.
