Blacktopping Works Underway on Lasti–Beni Section of Kaligandaki Corridor
The blacktopping of the Lasti–Beni section under the Kaligandaki Corridor has begun, marking a significant step toward improving connectivity along one of Nepal’s key national road networks.
The section serves as the main link between Maldhunga–Beni and Mustang, connecting these regions to the national highway. According to Engineer Bishnu Chapagain, Information Officer of the Beni–Jomsom–Korola Road Project, blacktopping works have started from Farse towards Beni.
“Two kilometers of paving have already been completed in landslide-affected areas along the 13-kilometer Maldhunga–Beni stretch,” Chapagain informed. Earlier, five kilometers of blacktopping had been carried out from Maldhunga in Kushma Municipality-1 to Nagliwang in Jaljala Rural Municipality-8 under the same project.
The road upgrade project, which includes widening and asphalt paving, was awarded under a contract worth Rs 528.6 million in Chaitra 2077 BS. Once completed, the 11-meter-wide Lamdhunga–Beni road will significantly enhance transportation efficiency, promote trade and tourism, and facilitate easier access to Mustang and other highland regions.
The Kaligandaki Corridor is considered one of Nepal’s strategic road projects, envisioned to connect the Terai with the northern border through Beni, Jomsom, and Korola, ultimately supporting economic growth and regional development.
