Bangladesh to purchase 500 MW electricity from Nepal; Intends to invest in the Nepalese hydropower sector

After the keen interest and increasing involvement of India and China, Bangladesh has also joined them to invest in the Nepalese hydropower sector. An agreement has been made with the Bangladesh government regarding the same.

Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Mr Barsaman Pun from Nepal and Minister of Electricity, Energy and Minerals of Bangladesh, Mr Nasurul Hamid have signed on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

In the MoU, Bangladesh have agreed to purchase 500 MW electricity from Upper Karnali Hydropower Project which is currently being constructed by the Indian company. For this purpose, the issue of transmission lines will be discussed in the upcoming BIMSTEC convention.
