Army Withdraws Curfew in Kathmandu After Interim PM’s Appointment

The Nepali Army has rolled back curfew and prohibitory orders in the Kathmandu Valley following the swearing-in of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim prime minister on Friday night. By Saturday morning, traffic and public movement had picked up again, signaling the capital’s return to routine life.
Security forces had enforced strict restrictions for four days after the Gen Z protests intensified, limiting movement during the day and imposing a nightly curfew. With no new orders issued since late Saturday, the measures appear to have been lifted.
Previously, essential services were allowed only in the mornings and evenings, with prohibitory rules in place through midday and curfew spanning the night hours. The withdrawal of these restrictions is expected to ease daily hardships and restore a sense of stability in Kathmandu.
