A total of 50 candidates have applied to become the new head of the Nepal Insurance Authority, as the application window officially closed yesterday. The position opened up after the government removed the previous leader, Sharad Ojha, from the post.

The list of applicants includes a diverse group of professionals. Among those seeking the top spot are insurance industry experts, current employees of the authority, active and retired officials from Nepal's central bank, and former chief executives of various insurance companies. The recommendation committee had officially called for applications on May 27.

This year, the government has simplified the selection process compared to previous rounds. In the past, applicants were required to submit a detailed business plan along with their resume, and short-listed candidates had to present their strategies to a committee. This time, however, candidates were only asked to submit their personal details and a self declaration form.
