The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment has initiated preparations to import approximately 210,000 metric tonnes of chemical fertilizer by mid-August to ensure an adequate supply for the upcoming paddy planting season. This target marks the highest volume of chemical fertilizer scheduled for import in a single year. To meet this demand, the government has adopted a multi-channel approach, which includes bringing in 30,000 metric tonnes of urea from India under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement, expected to arrive in Nepal during the first week of August.

The remaining 180,000 metric tonnes will be imported through global tenders from various countries, consisting of 60,000 metric tonnes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 120,000 metric tonnes of urea. In tandem with these supply efforts, the Ministry has introduced measures to curb local-level irregularities and black marketing. A dedicated hotline (9700099113) and a QR code reporting system have been established, allowing citizens to register complaints daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
