176 Everest Climbers from 26 Countries Honoured at Everest Summiteers Summit–2026 in Kathmandu

A total of 176 climbers from 26 countries who successfully summited Mt. Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) were honoured during the second edition of the Everest Summiteers Summit–2026 held in Kathmandu on 27th May.

The event was organised by Everest Alliance Nepal in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, where climbers were awarded special medals and certificates in recognition of their achievement.

The programme was attended by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadga Raj Paudel, Ministry Secretary Mukunda Prasad Niraula, Chairman of Everest Alliance Nepal Sudarshan Nepal, President of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) Kumar Mani Thapaliya, and Chairman of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Sagar Pandey, among others.

Speaking at the event, Minister Paudel praised the courage and determination of the climbers, highlighting the need to promote safe and sustainable mountain tourism. He stressed improving climbers’ safety, strengthening emergency rescue systems, and empowering local Himalayan communities economically. He also expressed concern over the growing impacts of climate change in the Himalayas, including glacier melt, biodiversity loss, and waste management challenges, emphasizing that Himalayan conservation is a global responsibility.

Senior mountaineer and Director of Seven Summit Treks, Mingma Sherpa, noted Nepal’s growing attraction as a global mountaineering destination and acknowledged the vital contribution of Sherpa guides in high-altitude expeditions.

Chairman of Everest Alliance Nepal Sudarshan Nepal stated that the summit has been organized for the past two years to honour Everest climbers and promote a unified voice for the future of the Himalayas, aiming to uplift Nepal’s mountain tourism on the global stage.

Renowned climbers, including Kami Rita Sherpa, who holds the world record for summiting Everest 32 times, and Lakpa Sherpa, known for the highest number of female ascents, were also honoured at the event.

Earlier in the day, President Ramchandra Paudel hosted a “Breakfast with Everest Summiteers” and interacted with the climbers on the occasion.
