122 Undergo Free Cataract Surgeries in Jumla Eye Camp; Over 500 Receive Treatment
A two day free eye camp held in Jumla district has provided critical eye care services to hundreds of local residents, including free cataract surgeries for 122 patients.
The camp was organized by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Jumla, with technical support from Himalaya Eye Hospital, Pokhara. According to the organization’s President, Jagadish Chaulagain, the initiative specifically targeted individuals who were unable to access treatment due to financial constraints and the district’s remote geography.
In total, 546 people benefited from various eye care services during the camp. Among them, 122 patients successfully underwent cataract surgery free of cost.
Prior to the main camp, separate outreach programs were conducted across all eight local levels of the district. These camps collectively provided specialized eye care services to nearly 1,100 individuals. The services were delivered by a team led by Senior Ophthalmologist Hari Bikram Adhikari from Himalaya Eye Hospital.
Dal Bahadur Mahatara, Eye Worker Supervisor at Chandannath Eye Hospital, stated that the free eye camps have significantly benefited underprivileged and needy patients in the region.
The initiative has been widely appreciated for improving access to essential eye care services in one of Nepal’s most remote districts.
