10 Candidates Apply for Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairperson Post; 22 for Member Positions
A total of 10 candidates have applied for the position of Chairperson of Nepal's Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC), which has remained vacant following the removal of the commission's leadership under the Public Office Bearers Removal Special Arrangement Ordinance, 2083.
Among the applicants is former ERC Chairperson Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital, who was dismissed under the ordinance. Other notable candidates include former Water and Energy Commission Secretary Madhu Prasad Bhetwal, former Chairman of Water Supply Tariff Commission Rudra Prasad Gautam, former ERC member Rameshwar Prasad Kalwar, former Joint Secretary of Ministry of Irrigation Moti Bahadur Kunwar, and former ERC member Dr. Madhusudan Adhikari.
The applicant list also includes Keshav Adhikari, Dr. Bholanath Sharma Adhikari, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, and Dr. Shantikala Subedi. Sharma is a professor at Pulchowk Campus, while Subedi teaches at Himalayan College.
Meanwhile, 22 candidates have submitted applications for the commission's member positions. The applicants include former ERC member Jhamak Prasad Sharma, along with professionals and experts from the energy, engineering, and regulatory sectors.
The commission has been without leadership since the government removed its chairperson and four members through the ordinance earlier this year.
