Wagle Slams Policies and Programs, Calls Seven-Point Agreement a ‘National Joke’

Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Vice President and Deputy Speaker Dr. Swarnim Wagle didn’t hold back in Parliament on Tuesday, delivering a sharp critique of the government’s freshly unveiled policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year.

Wagle said the document laid bare the government’s “rhythm, character, and capacity”—and not in a good way. “This is supposed to be a two-thirds government backed by the country’s two major parties, yet it’s running on recycled promises and tired declarations,” he said during his address in the House of Representatives.

He took direct aim at the recent seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress and the UML, calling it a joke in the name of governance. “Forget television comedy. Just hand a minister the agreement and let them read it out—it would have the same effect,” he quipped.

According to Wagle, the country traditionally expects the major parties to come together in times of deep crisis. “But when they finally did, they brought no hope, no economic reform, and no push for constitutional amendments. Even leaders from the ruling side seem disheartened,” he added.

He stressed that the focus now must shift toward implementing the upcoming budget with clarity and commitment. “Policies are only as good as the budget that backs them—and right now, both seem to be missing purpose,” Wagle concluded.
