The Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM) took action against two traders selling polyplush mats at higher price. The wrongdoers have been handed over to the police so that the latter can take action as per Black Marketing Act. During market monitoring on Wednesday, an inspection team of DoCSM had found Sagar Readymade in front of Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital, Thapathali selling the mats at Rs 183 per metre, which normally costs Rs 110.

Similarly, Gharaniya Furniture of Mid-Baneshwor was selling it for Rs 225 per metre. Hari Narayan Belbase, director of DoCSM, said that both would face action as per the Black Marketing Act. The Act prohibits mark up of more than 20 per cent in purchasing price. However, Dilip Kumar Chaudhari, owner of Gharaniya Furniture, said that people buy mat only after bargaining and the price mentioned to DoCSM was only base price.
