Four organizations associated with banks and financial institutions have spoken out against the increasing number of attacks on financial institutions under the pretext of non-payment of loans.

Banks, financial institutions, and microfinance organizations in Itahari, Sunsari, and Jhapa in eastern Nepal have been condemned for obstructing operations, threatening employees, and depriving customers of essential banking services.

In response, these organizations are urging security agencies to take immediate action to ensure the safe operation of branches and the protection of employees and customers.

They emphasize that individuals involved in disruptive activities under the guise of loan non-payment should face consequences, stressing the importance of everyone understanding the basic principle that loans must be repaid.

On Monday, the Nepal Bankers' Association (NBA), Development Bankers Association Nepal (DBAN), Nepal Financial Institutions Association (NFIA), and Nepal Microfinance Bankers' Association (NMBA) jointly issued a statement.

They demand that those responsible for such attacks be held accountable, urging for the maintenance of peace and security and the provision of necessary protection for the essential services provided by banks, financial institutions, and microfinance organizations.

They also highlight the direct and indirect contributions of these institutions, which serve as the main pillars of the economy, towards the country's development. They stress the services offered to the general public, as well as the role played in economic growth and job creation.

Additionally, they remind readers that employees in the banking, financial, and microfinance sectors work tirelessly to provide services to their customers, even during adverse situations such as earthquakes or the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organizations assert that any hindrance to the banking sector, which is recognized as an essential service by the country, is deemed illegal and action should be taken accordingly.

This news story aims to shed light on the concerns expressed by these organizations in response to the increasing attacks on financial institutions and emphasize the significance of maintaining a secure and uninterrupted banking system.
