SEBON Orders Investigation After Data Center Attack Disrupts NEPSE

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has taken the technical issue at Data Hub Pvt. Ltd. seriously after the data center hosting the servers of 72 brokerage companies was affected. In a press statement, SEBON said it has directed the concerned authorities to investigate the incident and submit a report with recommendations by Ashwin 12 (September 28).

SEBON has also formed a five member inspection team led by an executive director to identify the technical problems that led to the closure of trading. The team will inspect the situation and provide suggestions for preventing similar incidents in the future.

This step of SEBON follows reports that the Data Hub infrastructure was hit by a ransomware attack, affecting systems connected to the trading operations of 72 brokers. The incident has raised concerns about the security of data belonging to around 8 million investors amounting more than 45 Kharba.

SEBON said it is committed to taking further measures to make Nepal’s securities market safer, more secure and more transparent.
