Kavrepalanchowk District Police Office has arrested a trader in Banepa on charges of importing and selling counterfeit Tata vehicles parts and lubricants, allegedly defrauding consumers.

A police team raided the shop and warehouse of Nest Generation Automotive Pvt. Ltd., owned by Rajkumar Pote, and recovered counterfeit parts worth crores of rupees that had been illegally imported. Police sealed the shop along with 10 warehouses and took pote into custody.

Pote has previously been arrested and prosecuted in multiple reveneue fraud cases, police said.

Officials noted that the use of counterfeit parts has contributed to a rise in vehicle accidents, causing loss of life and property, while also costing the state significant revenue. Legitimate businesses, they added, are being directly affected and some are being driven out of the trade.

Police administration has said it will intensify nationwide search and enforcement operations against individuals involved in such illegal trade.
