Nepal Tourism Sees Recovery as 72,250 Tourists Enter in June, Indians Account for 53%: Report

In the month of June 2023, a total of 72,250 foreign tourists entered Nepal. This data was provided by the Nepal Tourism Board, indicating a slight decrease in tourist arrivals compared to the previous months, possibly due to the onset of the monsoon season. However, it is noteworthy that this year has shown a significant recovery in tourism compared to 2021 and 2022, with a 96.48 percent increase in arrivals compared to pre-Covid times.
Among the total tourist arrivals, the majority, accounting for 53.76 percent, were Indian tourists. In June alone, 38,845 Indian tourists visited Nepal. Additionally, 8,470 tourists arrived from the United States, 2,402 from China, 2,402 from Bangladesh, and 1,992 from London. Other countries with notable arrivals included Australia (1,639), Malaysia (1,079), South Korea (888), Japan (764), and Bhutan (702). These statistics only reflect tourists arriving by air, and the actual number may be higher when considering those entering Nepal via road routes.
Maniraj Lamichhane, the spokesperson of the Nepal Tourism Board was quoted as saying, that the number of tourists entering by road is even higher than the reported figures.
