The third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) kicks off today at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Prime Minister Balendra Shah is set to inaugurate the country's flagship T20 franchise cricket tournament, which he highlighted as having established itself as a major national sports festival within just a few years.

The announcement was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Press and Research Expert, Deepa Dahal, along with a message shared by Prime Minister Shah on social media. Welcoming international players and commentators who have arrived in Nepal for the event, Prime Minister Shah offered his best wishes for a successful tournament to all participating Nepali players, event organizers, and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). Emphasizing strong support for the sport, he expressed confidence that the NPL will elevate the global stature of Nepali cricket under the slogan "May Nepali cricket live forever."

The opening match of the tournament is scheduled for 5:00 PM today, featuring a high stakes clash between the defending champions, Lumbini Lions, and last season's runners up, Sudurpaschim Royals.

Organized under the auspices of CAN, the 27 day tournament features major regional franchises alongside international talent, with all 32 matches scheduled to take place at the Tribhuvan University grounds in Kirtipur.
