Dashain Break Ends, NEPSE Set to Resume Trading Today

Nepal’s stock market NEPSE will reopen today after a nearly 10 day break for the Dashain festival, with investors closely watching how the market responds to the extended holiday. Market was closed from 31st Ashwin and it will open today kartik 9.

The first trading session after a long holiday often attracts attention as investors reassess their investment plans and respond to developments that took place while the market was closed. Trading activity and share prices may fluctuate as buyers and sellers adjust their positions. Some companies could see increased buying and selling, while certain sectors may experience excessive volume.

However, a rise or fall on the first trading day does not necessarily indicate the market’s direction in the following sessions. Past trading patterns after Dashain show that market performance can vary from year to year, making it difficult to predict the outcome based on previous trends alone.

This year, the absence of major international developments and significant domestic changes during the Dashain break has made the market outlook uncertain. Some active investors expect the market to post a modest gain in the opening session, although they believe any upward movement could remain limited. Despite the formation of a new government, the stock market has yet to record a strong and sustained rise, leaving investors cautious as trading resumes.

Investors are expected to focus on NEPSE’s index movement, total trading turnover, and the performance of individual sectors to assess market sentiment. The direction of the market in the coming sessions will likely depend on investor confidence, company performance, liquidity conditions, and broader economic developments.
