Independent Power Producers Association Changes Rules to Elect Top Leaders

The Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has updated its governing rules following official approval from the District Administration Office. Under the newly approved constitution, IPPAN will now hold elections for its top leadership spot, officially ending the old rule where the senior vice president automatically became president.

The revised rules expand the organization's executive committee from 25 to 37 members. The expanded committee includes the president, immediate past president, senior vice president, seven vice presidents, general secretary, deputy general secretary, seven secretaries, treasurer, and 11 open board members. To encourage diversity and broader participation, the new constitution requires that at least one vice president, one secretary, and four open board members be women, while also reserving dedicated representation for young entrepreneurs and associate members.

The updated constitution also sets stricter rules for top leadership positions. To run for president or senior vice president, a candidate must have served at least one full term as a member of the executive committee. Additionally, candidates for these top two roles are required to be politically neutral; anyone affiliated with a political party must formally resign and submit written proof, or their candidacy will be disqualified.
