Increase in Deposits To Rs. 56 Kharba in the Banking System; Interbank Interest Rate Reaches 3% Again

Deposits within the banking system have surged to over Rs. 56 Kharba.

According to data from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the cumulative deposits in banks and financial institutions reached Rs. 56 Kharba 8 Arba as of Ashad 16. The total deposits stood at Rs. 55 Kharba 99 Arba as of Ashad 14, marking a growth of Rs. 9 Arba in just two days.

Additionally, deposits within commercial banks also increased by Rs. 8 Arba during this two-day period. The total deposits in commercial banks rose from Rs. 49 Kharba 43 Arba on Ashad 14 to Rs. 49 Kharba 51 Arba on Ashad 16.

Simultaneously, credit investments by banks and financial institutions witnessed a rise of Rs. 3 Arba during the same period. The total credit investments reached Rs. 48 Kharba 62 Arba as of Ashad 16, compared to Rs. 48 Kharba 59 Arba recorded on Ashad 14.

As deposits surged, the average credit-deposit (CD) ratio across banks and financial institutions decreased to 83.55 percent as of Ashad 16, down from 83.62 percent on Ashad 14.

Furthermore, the interbank interest rate dropped to 3.57 percent by Ashad 16. Previously, it was recorded at 5 percent until Ashad 14.
