Government to Form Four-Member Task Force to Review Public Holidays

The government has decided to form a four-member task force under the coordination of a Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs to review Nepal's public holiday system. The decision was made during a meeting of government secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki on Monday. The review comes after the implementation of the two-day weekend policy, under which Saturdays and Sundays are designated as weekly holidays.

According to the decision signed by Chief Secretary Karki, the task force will include representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the Ministry of Finance. The committee has been directed to submit its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs within 15 days.

The meeting also decided that concerned ministries should immediately begin drafting bills identified for formulation during the current fiscal year. In addition, ministries have been instructed to initiate the process of repealing outdated, irrelevant, and implementation-hindering laws as part of the government's legal reform efforts.
