Government Appoints Rajan Bikram Thapa as Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority

The government has appointed Rajan Bikram Thapa as the Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday appointed Thapa based on the recommendation of the selection committee formed by the Ministry of Finance to recommend a candidate for the position.

Thapa took the oath of office and secrecy on Wednesday at a program held at the Ministry of Finance. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle administered the oath to the newly appointed chairman.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, Minister Wagle directed Thapa to work fearlessly and confidently toward the reform, development, and growth of Nepal’s insurance sector. He also urged him to take effective measures to strengthen the overall insurance sector.

Thapa is currently serving as an Executive Director at Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). His appointment as chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority comes at a time when strengthening insurance coverage, improving regulatory effectiveness, and expanding the contribution of the insurance sector remain key priorities.

The Nepal Insurance Authority is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing and regulating Nepal’s insurance sector.
