Germany and Nepal celebrated 50 years of technical cooperation at a ceremony in Khumaltar under the theme “Woven Through Time, Shaping Tomorrow Together.” The partnership, which began in the early 1970s with Bhaktapur’s heritage preservation, has since expanded to areas including infrastructure, urban development, agriculture, forestry, industrial growth, peacebuilding, post-earthquake reconstruction, energy, health, and sustainable economic development. German organizations like GIZ, KfW Development Bank, and PTB have played key roles, emphasizing collaboration, mutual respect, and alignment with Nepal’s national priorities.

Nepal’s Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal highlighted the partnership as a story of trust and shared vision, calling for deeper cooperation in renewable energy, public health, sustainable infrastructure, inclusive economic growth, and revenue systems. German Ambassador Udo Volz reflected on the evolution of cooperation from heritage restoration to modern digital solutions, while GIZ Nepal’s Country Representative Paulina Campos Monteros emphasized long-term partnerships, innovation, and sustainable solutions. The event also included a panel discussion outlining future collaboration, reaffirming Germany’s commitment to Nepal’s prosperity and Sustainable Development Goals.
