The Gen Z Movement Nepal has officially demanded the immediate dismissal and arrest of Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, citing "serious allegations" that have surfaced against him. In a strongly worded press release issued on Baisakh 06, the movement, which was a pivotal force in the political transition leading to the current administration called for an impartial investigation into Gurung's conduct.

The demand comes amid reports linking Minister Gurung to controversial business figures, specifically Deepak Bhatta, who is currently under investigation for money laundering. Further scrutiny intensified after the Prime Minister’s Office released property details showing that Gurung and his family own approximately 260 ropanis of land and substantial amounts of gold and silver, wealth that critics argue is inconsistent with his public image as a grassroots activist.

"Conflict of Interest"

In the statement signed by spokesperson Vijay Shah, the Gen Z Movement argued that Gurung cannot remain in office while being investigated.

"It is impossible to conduct an investigation while he remains in power. This is a clear conflict of interest that raises serious questions about the judicial process," the statement reads. "Remaining in a ministerial position while under investigation for one's own actions is against fundamental morality and legal principles."

Message to the Balen Shah Government

The movement also issued a stern warning to the government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah. They criticized the "unstable and undignified" practice of appointing and removing ministers on a whim, demanding that the leadership show maturity, foresight, and accountability.

The press release reminded the current administration of its origins: "This is no ordinary government. It represents a mandate obtained through the blood and sacrifice of 76 martyrs. No one has the right to play cheap politics over the sacrifices of the people."

Demands for Justice

The Gen Z Movement emphasized that the justice process must remain independent and free from pressure. They asserted that no individual, regardless of their rank or political protection, should be immune from the law.

"The dreams of the martyrs and the hopes of the people cannot be trifled with," the statement concluded.

Context

Sudhan Gurung, a former leader of the Gen Z protests that toppled the previous government in 2025, was appointed Home Minister on March 27, 2026, as part of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) within Balen Shah's cabinet. While his early tenure was marked by high profile arrests of former officials, he has recently faced a wave of criticism over his own business ties and property holdings.
