Finance Minister Khanal Charts Path to Economic Recovery Amid Gen-Z Movement Fallout

Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal outlined Nepal’s economic recovery plan, emphasizing coordinated fiscal and monetary policies to restore trust, investment security, and job creation. Speaking at the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, he revealed that the recent Gen-Z Movement caused NPR 78 billion in damages, with NPR 36 billion affecting the private sector and NPR 42 billion the government.

The government is ensuring insurance claims are settled promptly and committing to financial discipline in reconstruction. The private sector, represented by NCC, highlighted demands including customs duty adjustments, a multi-tier VAT system, resolution of the cooperative crisis, streamlined tax audits, and stronger investor protection. Minister Khanal reaffirmed the government’s focus on structural reforms and prudent economic management to foster sustainable growth and confidence among businesses.
