eSewa Marks 17 Years with New User-Centric Innovations, Strengthens Commitment to Digital Nepal

Nepal’s leading digital payment service provider, eSewa, has completed 17 years of formal operation and entered its 20th year since inception. Launched officially on January 25, 2010, after a beta release in 2009, eSewa has played a pioneering role in Nepal’s digital payment ecosystem and the growth of the digital economy. Guided by the slogan “All, Always, Together,” the platform has focused on making financial services simple, secure, and accessible to all. Today, eSewa offers a wide range of services, including mobile top-ups, utility bill payments, flight and hotel bookings, insurance, movie tickets, loans, investments, and other daily-life payment solutions.

Speaking at the 17th anniversary Innovation Day program, eSewa Chairman Parshuram Kunwar Chhetri said the company remains committed to enhancing service quality while ensuring safety and reliability through collaboration with regulators, users, and stakeholders. CEO Jagdish Khadka highlighted that eSewa’s 17-year journey proves Nepali fintech companies can compete at a global level, adding that continuous user-centric innovation will support the vision of Digital Nepal.

On the occasion, eSewa introduced three new features: Talkback for visually impaired users, making it Nepal’s first payment provider to offer voice-assisted navigation; Intent-Based Payment, enabling faster and more secure transactions without MPINs or OTPs; and eSewa Circle Chat, which integrates chatting, bill sharing, and group payments. These additions reinforce eSewa’s commitment to financial inclusion, convenience, and building a more connected digital economy in Nepal.
