Shares of Emerging Nepal Limited (ENL) came under heavy selling pressure on Wednesday (today), plunging to the 15% negative circuit after news emerged that six major shareholders are planning to sell shares held by them within the next three months. The selling intensified shortly after the disclosure, with investors rushing to exit the stock amid concerns over a possible increase in the supply of shares in the market.
ENL, which had closed at Rs. 691.60 in the previous trading session, opened today at Rs. 657.10 today before extending its decline. The stock has now fallen to around Rs. 587.90, marking a drop of approximately Rs. 103.70, or 15%, from the previous close and hitting its daily negative circuit.
The sharp decline comes after Emerging Nepal informed the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) that six major shareholders holding promoter shares have expressed their intention to sell their holdings within the next three months. The disclosure appears to have triggered panic among investors, particularly because a large portion of ENL's listed shares are held by promoters. According to the company's share structure, 555,600 shares, representing 10% of the total listed shares, are public shares, while the remaining 90% are promoter shares.
The six shareholders collectively hold 857,539 shares, according to the company’s notice. Among them, United Distributors Nepal Ltd. holds 262,500 shares, followed by Bishal Agrawal with 167,235 shares, Nikunj Agrawal with 166,680 shares, Regency Trading Pvt. Ltd. with 100,000 shares, Jagadish Prasad Agrawal with 69,450 shares, and Anuj Agrawal with 916,74 shares.
Although the notice only states their intention to sell and does not confirm that all or any of these shares have already been sold, the disclosure has nevertheless sparked strong selling pressure in ENL. Investors are now closely watching whether the proposed sales will actually enter the market and how they could affect the stock's supply and price in the coming sessions.
