Earthquake loss at over Rs 30 billion

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has estimated that the April 25 earthquake and subsequent powerful aftershocks have caused damages worth over Rs 30.55 billion in local bodies of different districts. Ministry Spokesperson Purna Chandra Bhattarai told RSS that the damage includes Rs 20 billion in terms of roads, Rs 127 million in suspension bridges, Rs 15 million in overhead bridges and Rs 350 million in trail roads in different districts. He further said that the waste management sector recorded a loss of Rs 30 million, small irrigation and river control Rs 126.4 million and micro hydropower and alternative energy Rs 4.36 billion, while the buildings of local bodies and airports suffered damages worth Rs 3.05 billion and social infrastructure sector Rs 2.5 billion. Bhattarai also shared about the plan being formulated to recover the loss in the area.
