Today, the World Environment Day is being observed around the globe.
The theme for the World Environment Day 2023 is under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution, 'Ecosystem Restoration'. The campaign aims to discourage plastic pollution, which can cause irreparable damage to oceans, soil, forest and wildlife and aquatic life.
In Nepal, World Environment Day is being celebrated with the slogan "New Thinking and Creation for the Restoration of Natural Ecosystem” by focusing on the restoration of ecosystem.
The President of Nepal Ramchandra Paudel in his message for the occasion reminded that excessive exploitation of natural resources by humans has created an imbalance in the eco system around us. He stated, "I would like to make heartily call upon all to promote environment friendly activities by adopting nature friendly lifestyle to restore ecosystem."
Prez Paudel further states that "I have taken this day as a day for all of us to take a vow to materialize constitutionally assured right to live in a clean environment by improving environment around us and making vibrant the interrelations of flora, fauna and humans with water, air, land and forests."
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
The WED 2023 is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. The steps governments and businesses are taking to tackle plastic pollution are the consequence of this action.
