World Bank and UNHCR Officials Extend Courtesy Calls to Nepal's Home Minister, Pledge Support and Strengthened Cooperation

Faris Hadad Zervos, the Country Director for Nepal at the World Bank, extended a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, at the Ministry of Home Affairs. During the meeting, Zervos conveyed the World Bank's willingness to provide support for Nepal's comprehensive disaster risk reduction initiatives and to enhance the institutional capacity of the government. This support is particularly directed towards mitigating potential risks stemming from large hydropower projects in the country.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane expressed gratitude for the World Bank's consistent support across various sectors, including post-earthquake reconstruction, social protection, and disaster management. He underscored the importance of such collaboration in bolstering Nepal's resilience against natural disasters and in fostering sustainable development.
Furthermore, Caroline Spannath Varma, the country representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), also paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane yesterday. During the meeting, Lamichhane expressed confidence in strengthening cooperation between Nepal and UNHCR, emphasizing the crucial role played by the organization in managing refugee-related affairs in Nepal. This exchange highlights the commitment of both parties to fostering stronger and more effective collaboration in addressing humanitarian challenges and promoting peace and stability in the region.
