Work at Biratnagar-Jogbani customs slowed
BIRATNAGAR, April 5:
Trade through the Biratnagar-Jogbani customs has slowed significantly during the last two weeks after officials of Indian intelligence agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated action against officials and raided the Jogbani customs office on charges of demanding kickbacks from traders.
The CBI has started the process of taking action against three customs officials and one customs agent.
Citing insufficient staff and customs agents after the raid, Jogbani customs employees have slowed customs checking process for last 15 days.
“Collection of customs revenue has come to almost negligible levels in the last couple of weeks. We have been making efforts to normalize the process of the customs checking process and are seeking cooperation from Indian officials,” said Rajendra Dahal, the chief of Biratnagar Customs Office.
