Weekly Market Summary as of 25th to 28th June 2012

This week Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) saw an upward trend though its turnover for the week decreased by Rs 117,900,924. With opening of this week’s trade session, Nepse saw 10.26 points improvement which is highest for a single day trade since May 31st, 2012. As for the overall week, the benchmark index settled at 377.47 level adding 12.33 or 3.38% points than the previous week’s closing level. The highest level during review period was on Thursday with 377.47 points whereas lowest was on Tuesday with 368.47 points.
With the Merger agreement between Nepal Industrial and Commercial Bank Limited (NIC) and Bank of Asia Nepal Limited (BOAN), the turnover of the both companies went up by 220.59% and 151.25% respectively measure up to prior week’s trade. The total amount of share traded for BOAN this week was 32,759 units which is 137.99% higher than previous week. Similarly, for NIC was 18,418 units which is 208% higher. At the end of the review period the closing price of NIC and BOAN was Rs 468 and Rs 228 respectively.
In this week’s trading session, Rara Bikas Bank Limited was the Top Gainer with Rs 8 or 11.11% whereas Kaski Finance Limited was the Top Loser with Rs 17 13.49%. Likewise, National Hydro Power Co. had the highest traded share of 58,808 units for this week. Similarly, in case of highest transaction Chilime Hydro power Co. was the first with 375 times. All in all, with 50,326 units worth Rs.30,104,091 via 296 transactions Bank of Kathmandu (BOK) was the top performer in terms of highest turnover in overall week’s session; in which Broker No 6 (Agrawal Securities Pvt. Limited) was most active broker with 35.80% stand alone dealing of BOK, amounting Rs 10,777,788 via 45 transactions of 18,139 units which includes matching of 10,569 units worth Rs 6,292,816.
Sectoral wise, Banking was the top gainer with 14.55 or 4.38% points, close at 347.11 level, followed by Others, Hydro, Development and Insurance with 23.49 or 4.35%, 25.06 or 4.17%, 2.12 or 0.86% and 0.87 or 0.18% points compare to earlier week’s closing level. Similarly, Finance suffered the highest loss with 1.27 or 0.48%, settled at 264.11 level, followed by Hotel sector with 0.19 or 0.04% than previous week’s concluding level. All in all, Sensitive index gained by 3.72 or 3.99% to settle at 96.96 level while Float index gained by 0.84 or 2.89% point than preceding week’s final level.
The total turnover made this week was Rs 173,130,077 with highest on Thursday with Rs 63,115,378 and lowest on Tuesday with Rs 29,164,464. Overall 578,864 units of shares were traded via 4,395 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of review period was Rs 356,509.84 millions which is higher by Rs 11649.64 millions compare to previous week’s closing.
