VAT evaders details sought
KATHMANDU, June 13:
Freedom Forum has sought detail information of Value Added Tax (VAT) evaders from Finance Ministry.
The Forum has filed an application at the ministry asking it to provide detail information including name list of all VAT evaders under the existing Right to Information Act.
“After not receiving name list of VAT evaders from the ministry, the forum has protested with the finance secretary and appealed him to provide the detail,” its chairperson Taranath Dahal said, adding the forum will formally lodge a case at Nationals Information Commission under right to information, if it could not obtain the details within seven days.
“It is peoples’ right to information,” Dahal said, adding that intentional fraud worth billions should be exposed and the evaders should be brought to book. “The VAT fraud scam is the largest financial irregularity — in the last one decade due to lack of transparency,” according to Forum that has questioned the good governance.
