USAID provides $65.47 million aid
KATHMANDU:
The US Government — through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) — provided an additional $65.474 million (around Rs 5 billion) this year under its ongoing five-year assistance agreement with Nepal.
The USAID has provided $153.938 million through the bilateral agreement till date, the agency said, adding that the funds will be used to implement activities that will help achieve the objectives of President Obama’s three global initiatives — Feed the Future, Global Climate Change and the Global Health Initiative.
Various other programmes ongoing under the Assistance Agreement signed in 2009 contribute to the peace process to strengthen democratic institutions and processes, improving governance and rule of law, provide training and education for youth employment, supporting early childhood education, combatting trafficking in persons, the provision of sustainable, accessible, and quality basic health services and enhancing competitiveness in targeted economic sub-sectors. Joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance Lal Shanker Ghimire and Mission Director of USAID/Nepal signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments here today.
