USAID announces USD 110 million projects in Nepal

KATHMANDU:

USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah completed a two-day visit to Kathmandu, during which he announced up to USD 110 million projects in various sectors for Nepal.

Shah called on Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and other key political leaders and spoke at the closing session of the Nepal Economic Summit, where he stressed the private sector’s role in accelerating Nepal’s economic growth.

He also visited sites that highlight USAID’s commitment to using innovation, science, technology, and partnerships—with the Nepali government, civil society, and the private sector—to deepen development impact.

At a press roundtable today, he announced the US support projects that include up to USD 70 million Community Resilience Program for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, USD 20 million support to the National Early Grade Reading Program, USD 4.1 million Business Literacy Project to be operated in twenty Terai and lower hill districts.

According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, he also announced USD 10 million partnership between USAID, DFID and the Government of Nepal to help increase access to family planning services for some of Nepal’s most excluded households and pledged support of a USD 500,000 Innovative Early Warning Flooding System to help protect communities in the Mid- and Far West regions from flooding.
