Upper Trishuli I most cost effective project: Developers

Just ahead of holding Project Development Agreement (PDA) negotiations with the government, the developers of Upper Trishuli I Hydropower Project have claimed that the project is more cost effective and efficient than most other projects.
Organizing a program in the capital yesterday to brief the stakeholders about the project, officials with Nepal Water and Energy Development Company (NWEDC), a consortium with a South Korean government-owned company that is developing the 216 Megawatt project, said that the project can also generate considerable amount of electricity even during dry season, unlike most RoR type projects.
Once constructed, Upper Trishuli will be the largest RoR type hydropower project to be developed by the private sector in the country.
NWEDC is expected to hold PDA negotiation with the government on January 14 and 15.
Upper Trishuli A is entering the PDA negotiation with the government after the Bhotekoshi and Khimti hydropower projects.
It may be noted here that Upper Karnali and Arun III developers are also holding negotiations with the Investment Board Nepal for the project development.
In the Upper Trishuli consortium, South Korea’s state enterprise KOSEP owns 50 percent stake followed by 15 percent stake of DAELIM and International Finance Corporation, which is a member of the World Bank group. Nepali power developer Jade Power and another Korean company KYERYONG own the remaining stake – 10 percent stake each.
