UN body promises help to private sector

KATHMANDU, May 27:
United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has promised Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry to help private sector develop its capacity.

United Nations Industrial Development Organisation representative for India and Regional Director for South Asia, Ayumi Fujino, during a meeting with the private sector representatives here today said that it is ready to jointly work in textile, food security, compost fertilizer, alternative energy and capacity building of private sector. “We can work with FNCCI in key sectors,” said Fujino. United Nations Industrial Development Organisation is working with local agencies in development of small and medium enterprises in developing and under-developed countries across the world.

The meeting with umbrella organisation of Nepali private sector’s executives will help United Nations Industrial Development Organisation to explore potential collaboration areas for future.

FNCCI President Suraj Vaidya, on the occasion, requested Fujino for its support in capacity building of Nepali private sector. “We have been getting regular support from United Nations Industrial Development Organisation in the past,” he said, adding that FNCCI is hopeful of getting support in the future too.

Vaidya requested Fujino to revise United Nations Industrial Development Organisation’s pervious industrial development plan and develop it to Vision 2020 that would guide economic vision of Nepal. “I also requested private sectors of Least Developed Countries to start collaboration among ourselves — atleast among the South Asia — in Istanbul summit recently,” he added.

FNCCI executives, representatives from Handicraft Association of Nepal, Federation of Cottage and Small Industries and Garment Association of Nepal took part in the talk.

They stressed on working closely with the UN agency’s in employment generation in local level.
