Two Himalayan Bank staff arrested for fraud

KATHMANDU, May 10:
The police have arrested two staff of the Bharatpur branch of Himalayan Bank Ltd (HBL) on charges of embezzling clients’ deposits.
Branch Supervisor Sher Bahadur Thapa and junior assistant Prakash Baral were arrested after an internal investigation carried out by the bank found them to have been involved in the embezzlement of depositors´ money.
HBL issued a statement on Thursday saying a that a complaint had been filed at the Chitwan District Police Office against the two alleging that they had been found to have misappropriated money deposited in savings accounts and amount collected from evening counters.
Police has initiated an investigation into the case. The bank also said it has taken additional internal measures to ensure the safety of deposits.
