Trade volume up, Nepse lose 2.39 points

Barring the block trading of Soaltee Hotel’s shares that got the stock market’s trading volume up by 177.5 per cent, Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse)’s trading floor remained listless throughout this week -November 13 to 17.
The Nepse index lost 2.39 points in the week’s trading as the gains of manufacturing and others subgroup was wiped out by loss of hydropower companies. The index has once again
resumed in bounce over 330 points after raising hopes two weeks back when the index had reached 343 points.
On Sunday morning the stock market opened and kept slipping till Wednesday reaching 325.61 points. However, by the end of the week, the index reached to 329.78 points. This week Nepse trading floor witnessed transaction worth Rs 347.3 million through trading of 2,310,254 unit shares of 118 companies on 7111 transactions in five trading days. Soaltee Hotel’s one million unit shares were sold through block trading window of Nepse bringing the surge in transaction volume. Despite the lowered traded price was prevented to bring the stock index further down due to operation of block trading window.
This week class ‘A’ companies’ trading consisted only 13.80 per cent of total trading amounting to Rs 47.9 million. Sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies also went down by 0.42 points to 81.5 points.
This week, hotels, manufacturing and other subgroup were able to register gains while all the remaining ended up in red.
Unilever earned Rs 517 this week on per unit share pushing manufacturing subgroup up by 26.83 points. Others subgroup also went up by 14.1 points thanks to Nepal Telecom, while hotels earned 0.39 points.
The biggest loser of the week was hydropower subgroup with the loss of 30.1 points as. The major banks’ share prices down by 6.29 points while development banks, finance companies and insurance companies also lost by 2.2 points, 2.07 points and 5.84 points.
Soaltee Hotel was forerunner both in terms of transaction amount and number of shares traded with trading of 1,020,144 unit shares worth Rs 142.82 million.
The top five performers of the week are Soaltee Hotel (Rs 142.82 million), Laxmi Bank (Rs 100.28 million), StanChart (Rs 9.73 million), Chilime (Rs 5.76 million) and Prime Commercial Bank (Rs 5.74 million).
