Three recommended for top NAC post

The Chief Executive Appointment Recommendation Committee on Sunday recommended Devchandra Lal Karna, Madan Kharel and Rajeev Kumar Thapa for the post of managing director at Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).
A meeting of the committee headed by the chairman of Public Service Commission recommended their names to the Cabinet from among five shortlisted candidates after evaluating their presentations.
Other two candidates were Anil Kumar Jha and Buddisagar Lamichhane. The Cabinet will select one of the three recommended candidates for the top NAC post.
Karna is currently the director at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), while Kharel is a director at the commerce department of NAC. Thapa is has worked for various companies abroad, according to Public Enterprise Board, which facilitates the selection process.
After the exit of former NAC Executive Chairman Manroop Shahi, the selection process of a managing director at NAC gained momentum.
Separately, the selection committee on Friday had recommended three candidates for the post of general manager at Nepal Television. Those recommended are Anil Kumar Jha, Rajendra Dev Acharya and Laxman Humagain, according to an official at the PE Board.
Jha is an engineer at the Local Development Ministry, while Acharya and Humagain are serving NTV employees. Other candidates in the race were Deelip Kumar Jha and Rajendra Raj Timilsina.Although the selection committee had also planned to recommend candidates for the top post at Janak Education Materials Centre, their presentation date was postponed after a candidate failed to attend on the set date a few days ago.
“Now, the recommendation for the general manger for this public enterprise will take place right after Dashain,” said the PE Board official.
Lately, the selection process of chief executives at PEs is running smoothly after the Election Commission lifted the ban on the process after it became clear that the new Constituent Assembly election would not take place as scheduled on November 22.
The government recently appointed administrator at the Employees Provident Fund in the first ever appointment of an executive chief through the PE Board’s selection process.
