Three banks in IC misuse

Department of Revenue Investigation has found that transaction of fake customs declaration forms were also made from three more banks—Nepal Bangladesh Bank, Siddhartha Bank and Nabil Bank.

Around Rs 70 million Indian currency has been misused through these three banks, the department said. “Defaulters have misappropriated Rs 61.1 million, Rs 8.2 million and Rs 400,000 respectively from Siddhartha Bank, Nepal Bangladesh Bank and Nabil Bank.”

Similarly, the department has also suspected transaction through more three banks as well, the source said. “The department is currently tallying customs declaration forms of suspected transaction to the real bill and other documents.”

The department has brought the banks under scanner after it found that banks have been approving Indian currency exchange facility without filling foreign currency exchange form.

The banks are also under the scanner since they have released foreign currency (Indian Currency) without foreign currency exchange form, the source said. Interestingly, firms have taken Indian currency at the very day of deposit of Nepali rupees at the banks.

The central bank is also investigation into the fake customs declaration form scam after the Department of Revenue Investigation suspected the involvement of banks into the issue.

Meanwhile, finance minister Barsha Man Pun said that some major banks are involved in misappropriation of billions of Indian currency. The government will not let even a single stone to be unturned regarding fake customs declaration scam, he said, “All the defaulters will be brought to book.” He promised to reveal the name of all defaulters of Value Added Tax (VAT) bill scam.

No changes Finance Minister Barshaman Pun said that the government is planning to pass the fiscal budget presented by former government without making any changes. Speaking at a programme in the capital, he said that political parties have already reached into an understanding for the endorsement of the budget. “The house will pass the budget on September 18,” he said.
