Three arrested for ATM fraud

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has rounded up three persons on the charge of ATM fraud.
CIB identified the arrestees as Kewal Prasad Rana of Lalitpur-13, Bir Bahadur Bohora aka Babi, Deepak K C aka Akash of Salyan, currently living in Madhyapur Thimi-15, and Naresh Kumar Agrawal of KMC-1, Naxal.
The three had duplicated ATM cards of various Nepali and foreign banks and used the same to purchase goods.
They would encode fake data, deleting original data, in the magnetic stripe of ATM/VISA cards, police said.
Rana was nabbed on October 20 when he was making payment using a fake VISA card at a department store in Lalitpur-3 at around 8.00 pm.
Based on information that Rana provided during interrogation, police arrested Bohara and Agrawal from Dillibazaar and Kamalpokhari on October 23.
Police have seized 18 ATM/VISA cards of various banks based in Nepal, India and Bahrain, including Standard Charted Bank, Jyoti Development Bank, Nepal Investment Bank, Himalayan Bank and Bank of Kathmandu from them.
Meanwhile, a machine used for encoding fake data in the ATM cards, magnetic card reader/encoder, laptop, CPU, charger, AC-DC adaptor, pen drives, memory cards, SIM cards, watches, lighter, perfumes and alcohol were confiscated from Bohora’s rented room.
According to police, the trio had received new codes to use in ATM cards from a Nigerian national.
Police have also seized a motorcycle (NA 24 PA 3984), two Visa cards of Nepal Investment Bank and Himalayan Bank issued in the name of Bohora, a Nabil Bank VISA card issued in the name of Thal Bahadur Bohora, tax invoice bill of Bhatbhateni Supermarket worth Rs 6,300, a mobile phone and wireless mouse from Bohora.
SCT cards of Prime Commercial Bank, Jyoti Development Bank, Nepal Investment Bank, Bank of Kathmandu, Citizens Bank of Nepal, VISA cards of various banks in India and Bahrain, SIM cards, bills of purchasing goods, and a cellphone set were seized from Agrawal’s possession. The Metropolitan Police Range Lalitpur has been investigating the case.
