TECHNICAL ERROR IN NEPSE

Sun, May 19, 2013 12:00 AM on Others, Others,

Sharesansar, 19th May:

The technical glitch in the Nepse system today showed the misleading figure of the local bourse for the entire session. While calculating the Nepse points change, the base level should be taken of the prior day’s closing level but in today’s case, due to some technical error in the system, the adjustment in the points change was taken under the account of today’s opening level which was 494.5 points instead of 499.99 points of 16th May.  The error caused to show the Nepse in bullish path whereas in reality, the market index was in the red zone.

Following the opening of more than 4 points below the previous week’s closing, the benchmark index failed to breach the prior week’s closing level of 499.99 despite of numerous attempts as the selling pressure in the market outweighed the buying pressure. The market index today suffered a loss of 2.18 points to close at 497.81 points.

Among the sub-indices, only Banking and Others made a plunge of 3.03 and 5.88 points respectively whereas rest settled in the green pasture. The sector with highest gain was Manufacturing with 15.57 points followed by Hydro with 5.86 points growth. Similarly, Hotels made a climb of 2.27 points whereas Development, Finance and Insurance made meager surge of 0.18, 0.65 and 0.09 points respectively.
