Standard Chartered to sponsor cataract surgeries

KATHMANDU, OCT 12: 

Standard Chartered Bank Nepal will soon enter into an agreement with Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and other eye hospitals with a pledge to sponsor cataract surgeries for underprivileged and economically backward people of the country, according to a bank statement. The bank made the announcement coinciding with World Sight Day, which was observed on Thursday. 

Earlier, the bank had contributed a sum of US$1.1 million (Rs 85 million) to build Biratnagar Eye Hospital, with the objective of reinforcing the bank´s “Seeing is Believing” agenda in Nepal. The bank, in 2011, signed an agreement with Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology to sponsor 1,000 cataract surgeries between 2011/12. The bank has so far been instrumental in restoration of sights of over 6,000 poor and underprivileged people since the launch of the campaign in year 2003, the statement says.
