Standard Chartered Bank has announced a donation support of USD 100,000 (NPR 13.3 mn) to the British Red Cross, the Bank’s emergency response partner, following the recent earthquake in Western Nepal, which resulted in large-scale damage and loss of life.

The funding will help to support the Nepal Red Cross Society in providing first aid and medical assistance, as well as essentials like food, water, and relief items including emergency shelter kits to families who have lost their homes in the earthquake and are exposed to the elements with the winter approaching.

Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL), said:

“We are deeply saddened by the damage caused by the earthquake and stand in solidarity with the victims. As the only international bank in Nepal, we are in a strong position to be a force for positive change in times of need. We hope our donation will help the relief efforts and support those who have been severely impacted by this unfortunate disaster. We are committed to supporting our communities – it is at the heart of our brand promise to be Here for Good.”

In the aftermath of this earthquake, which is the largest to impact Nepal since 2015, Standard Chartered has been directly involved in the emergency response to support the victims and their families, including providing food, emergency tents and sleeping bags. The Bank is also raising funds internally to support the Red Cross in this cause.
